Gov. Nwifuru Launches Conditional Cash Transfer Program for Ebonyi’s Vulnerable Citizens

Date:

In a decisive move to mitigate the impact of Nigeria’s economic downturn on its most vulnerable residents, Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has rolled out a Conditional Cash Transfer program aimed at supporting low-income earners and small business owners across the state.

The program, which is part of the state government’s broader human capital development agenda, was formally unveiled by the Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, on behalf of the governor.

According to Mrs. Aligwe, each selected beneficiary will receive a total of ₦72,000, disbursed in three tranches.

“This initiative is in line with His Excellency’s People’s Charter of Needs, which prioritizes the welfare of the poor and vulnerable. The goal is not just to give handouts, but to empower residents economically and reduce dependency,” the commissioner stated during the launch event.

Over 5,000 vulnerable Ebonyians are set to benefit from the current phase of the program, with plans to scale up the initiative in subsequent phases based on available resources and impact assessments.

Residents and community leaders across the state have lauded the government’s effort, describing it as timely and life-saving, especially as the cost of living continues to rise across the country.

This cash transfer program comes on the heels of several other social intervention initiatives by the Nwifuru-led administration, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building an inclusive and economically resilient Ebonyi State.
