In a decisive move to enforce discipline and accountability within the public sector, the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru FNIOB FCAI GGCEHF, has ordered the suspension of over 100 government functionaries for failing to attend an important government event.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, affects officials across various levels of government, including commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and permanent secretaries. According to the directive, all listed officials are to proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary.
A total of 25 commissioners are on the list, including Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, Prof. Leonard Uguru, Dr. Mathew Nwobashi, and Chief Elechi Elechi, among others. Also affected are 14 senior special assistants such as Hon. Bassey Chukwu and Mrs. Rose Ofoke.
The list further includes 24 special assistants and 22 permanent secretaries. Prominent among them are Dr. Lawrence Ezeogo, Mrs. Rose Ibe, Barr. Emmanuel Onwe, and Mrs. Betty Uzoma.
The announcement was signed and made public on July 28, 2025, by Dr. Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. The decision is seen as part of the state government’s effort to reinforce commitment and responsibility among public office holders.
All affected officials are expected to comply with the directive with immediate effect.
