The Ebonyi State Executive Council, led by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved a series of landmark projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, boosting energy supply, and advancing economic planning in the state.
At the latest EXCO meeting held in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru’s administration approved the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2026–2028. Presented by the Ministry of Budget, Planning, Research, and Monitoring, the framework is expected to serve as a three-year financial roadmap for prioritizing and managing the state’s resources more efficiently.
One of the most notable approvals was the green light given to the Ministry of Power and Energy to commence the supply and installation of an independent power generation system. The first phase of this project will feature a 3-megawatt power plant at ICT University, Oferekpe, Agbaja, aimed at delivering 24-hour metered electricity to select public and private institutions across Ebonyi.
In a strategic move to expand energy access, the state will also participate in the Federal Government’s E-HAT initiative (Energy for Health, Education, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Transportation). Under this programme, 25 primary healthcare centres across Ebonyi have been listed to benefit from improved energy infrastructure. The pilot phase will begin with five centres and is valued at approximately ₦17.6 billion.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development presented the 2024 State Business Enabling Reform Action Plan (BIRA), which was also approved. This positions Ebonyi for participation in the World Bank’s SABER program (State Action on Business Enabling Reforms) for the 2025 cycle. The reforms under BIRA are designed to make Ebonyi more investor-friendly by improving the ease of doing business and strengthening regulatory frameworks.
To complement these efforts, the state approved the constitution of a 15-member Economic Advisory Committee. The committee will be chaired by Professor Bart Nnadi, with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Uruchi-Odo, serving as Secretary. This committee will support the government in policy formulation, investment promotion, and long-term economic planning.
Governor Nwifuru’s recent approvals represent a deliberate push toward sustainable development and inclusive growth. From energy access to economic reforms, the administration appears focused on laying a foundation that supports innovation, productivity, and improved quality of life for Ebonyi residents.
