The Ebonyi State Government has officially terminated the management contract of 3rd Retail Africa, led by Chief Eze Igwe, the firm previously responsible for administering the Ebonyi Shopping Mall.
The announcement was made by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru during a meeting held on Saturday with shop owners, mall managers, and top government officials. The decision follows growing public dissatisfaction with the operational state of the mall and reports of ineffective management practices under 3rd Retail Africa’s supervision.
“We have arrived at this conclusion in good faith, with the primary objective of serving Ebonyi people,” the Governor stated during the meeting.
3rd Retail Africa was originally contracted to oversee day-to-day operations at the Ebonyi Shopping Mall, one of the largest retail centers in the South-East. However, widespread complaints from tenants and users—including issues related to administrative coordination and facility upkeep—prompted the government to reassess the agreement.
Following the termination, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Shopping Mall Management, Hon. Valentine Okike, has been directed to assume oversight of the facility, pending further restructuring.
This action underscores the State Government’s renewed commitment to ensuring that the mall fulfills its intended purpose of boosting economic activity, supporting small businesses, and creating a functional commercial hub for the people of Ebonyi.
