The Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering (EBSUAAE), situated in Ezza, has received its Certificate of Recognition from the National Universities Commission (NUC), officially certifying its status as a tertiary institution within Nigeria’s university system.
The recognition was conferred on July 11, 2025, following the university’s compliance with NUC’s regulatory standards. EBSUAAE becomes one of the few specialized universities in Nigeria dedicated solely to aeronautics, aerospace engineering, and advanced technology training.
This milestone aligns with the vision of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who has consistently emphasized investment in science, innovation, and education as pillars for sustainable development. The Governor has maintained that the establishment of the aerospace university will help nurture a new generation of skilled professionals, stimulate research, and open the state to international academic collaborations.
While the certificate marks the university’s formal recognition, officials of the NUC noted that the institution will only commence academic activities after a resource verification exercise is conducted. This verification will assess the university’s readiness in terms of academic personnel, infrastructural facilities, laboratory equipment, and library resources.
Already, the Ebonyi State Government has taken significant steps to prepare the university for full operation. A total of ₦1.6 billion was allocated in the 2024 budget for the construction of faculty buildings and other critical infrastructure within the university’s main campus in Ezza South Local Government Area.
Education stakeholders across the region have hailed the development as a forward-thinking move, one that positions Ebonyi State as a rising hub for aerospace education and technological innovation in Nigeria.
The recognition of EBSUAAE by the NUC marks a new chapter in the state’s educational journey, signaling a commitment to producing globally competitive graduates in specialized fields.
