President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Barr. (Dr.) Kelechi Igwe, as a member of the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
The announcement was made during the official inauguration ceremony held on Monday, June 30, 2025, in Abuja. The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, presided over the event and charged the new board members to uphold the principles of accountability, transparency, and reform in managing Nigeria’s port sector.
Barr. Igwe, who served as Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023, joins a distinguished 11-man board chaired by Senator Bayo Adeyeye. Other members include the Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho; Dr. Mercy Ilori; Olabanjo Olateju; Ekpebide Ebi-Erin Daniel; Ibrahim Umar; Olalekan Badmus; Vivian Edeth; Amirudin Tukur Idris; and himself, Barr. Kelechi Igwe.
In his remarks, Minister Oyetola emphasized the critical role of the board in transforming the maritime sector to boost national revenue, streamline port operations, and attract foreign investments.
Barr. Igwe’s appointment has been met with congratulations from stakeholders in Ebonyi and beyond, many describing it as a recognition of his unwavering dedication to public service and governance.
With this appointment, the former Deputy Governor is expected to contribute his legal and administrative expertise to the strategic repositioning of Nigeria’s port industry.
