In a show of support and appreciation, Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has rewarded players and coaches of Abakaliki FC with ₦1 million each following their impressive run in the 2025 President Federation Cup (FA Cup), despite falling short in the final.
Governor Francis, while addressing the team, commended their resilience and dedication throughout the tournament, describing their performance as a “remarkable achievement that has brought pride to the state.” He applauded the squad for defying expectations and reaching the final stage of the prestigious competition.
“I want you to know that Ebonyi is proud of you,” the governor said. “You’ve done what many thought was impossible. Reaching the final alone is a great feat.”
As part of the reward package, each player and member of the coaching crew will receive ₦1 million, alongside other undisclosed benefits. Governor Francis also pledged to support the team’s progress, assuring them of the government’s commitment to securing their return to the Nigeria National League (NNL) in the coming season.
“Let this not be the end,” he added. “We will work together to ensure Abakaliki FC returns stronger. I will personally see to it that you return to the NNL where you truly belong.”
Abakaliki FC captured national attention with their spirited run to the final but narrowly lost to Kwara United in a tightly contested match. The governor’s gesture has since been widely praised as a motivational boost for grassroots football in the state.
