A heavy-duty truck overturned late last night at Vanco Junction in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, sparking safety concerns among road users and residents.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident was allegedly caused by the ongoing construction and incomplete state of the flyover at the junction. They say the lack of proper road demarcation and diversion signs has made the area dangerous for road users, especially heavy vehicles.
“The flyover is only halfway done, and there are no clear road guides. The truck driver was probably confused and lost control,” said one of the onlookers who witnessed the incident.
Though no lives were reportedly lost, the crash led to significant traffic disruption and raised safety concerns among residents. The truck, which appeared to be fully loaded, landed on its side, blocking one lane and causing a traffic build-up.
Security and emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and ensure public safety. As of the time of this report, the truck was yet to be evacuated.
Residents and commuters are now urging the Ebonyi State Government to expedite work on the Vanco flyover and install proper safety signs to prevent future accidents.
This incident adds to growing concerns over road infrastructure and traffic safety in the state.
