In a major political development in Ebonyi State, Hon. Joseph Nwobashi, the Federal Representative for Ezza North and Ishielu Constituency at the National Assembly, has formally left the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and declared his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection ceremony, held at his hometown in Ezza North Local Government Area, drew a large crowd, including over 5,000 supporters and notable figures such as Hon. Kelvin Kenechukwu Okeh, the representative for Ezza North East in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
Hon. Nwobashi, who secured his National Assembly seat during the 2023 general elections under the APGA banner—and was the only successful candidate from his party in that election—was officially received into the APC at the Ezza North LGA headquarters, Ebiaji. The State Chairman of APC, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, welcomed the lawmaker and other defectors.
Chief Okoro-Emegha praised the move, describing it as a wise decision in the best interest of the constituency. He urged the newcomers to respect party structures and existing members while working in unity to strengthen APC’s presence ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also emphasized that any form of division or factionalism would not be tolerated within the party.
Also present at the reception was the Chairman of Ezza North Local Government Area, Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali Nomeh, who called on politicians still in other parties to “return home” and join efforts in building a more prosperous Ebonyi under the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru.
In his remarks, Chief Ogodo-Ali Nomeh revealed that Ezza leaders have reached a consensus not to field any candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial race. He stated clearly, “Governor Francis Nwifuru remains our sole governorship candidate for the 2027 election. This decision is a collective resolve, and we expect more defections in the coming days.”
He assured APC leaders that Ezza people would give Governor Nwifuru unprecedented support in the next election cycle.
Hon. Nwobashi, while addressing the gathering, expressed delight over his return to APC, noting that he was one of its foundational members in Ebonyi State. He stated that his move was inspired by Governor Nwifuru’s inclusive leadership style, which transcends party lines.
Several dignitaries were present to witness the event, including Hon. Eze Nwachukwu Eze (representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency), Elder Statesman Chief Hon. Innocent Ugochima, Commissioner for Information Mr. Jude Okpor, Commissioner for Rural Development Ikeuwa Omabe, and former Council Chairman Dr. Jeff Ogbu, among others. Members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and various APC support groups were also in attendance.
