Abakaliki FC endured a disappointing outing on Matchday 20 of the Nigeria National League (NNL), falling 1-0 to Godswill Akpabio FC at the Uyo Township Stadium on Sunday.
The Ebonyi-based side, popularly known as the Rice Boys, remain at the bottom of the Group B standings with 17 points from 18 games.
Despite the setback, Abakaliki FC remains hopeful of avoiding relegation, with two crucial fixtures left to play this season.
“It was a tough defeat against Godswill Akpabio FC. Not the outcome we had hoped for, but we’re grateful to God regardless,” the club shared in a post-match statement. “Our chances are still alive.”
Next up, Abakaliki FC will face Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC in a bid to revive their survival hopes.
