Chinedu Ogah Empowers Over 3,000 Students, Boosts Agricultural Growth in Ebonyi

Date:

As part of a sweeping intervention in education and agriculture, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, the federal representative for Ikwo/Ezza South in Ebonyi State, has sponsored critical national exam fees for more than 3,000 students — including incarcerated individuals — and distributed thousands of farm inputs to support local food production.

The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Custodial Centres, announced the initiative during a large-scale distribution event held in Ohatekwe Amagu, Ikwo LGA. His education support covers WAEC, NECO, and JAMB registration fees, with a special allocation for inmates preparing for secondary exams.

Ogah also rolled out full scholarships for 300 vulnerable orphans and provided 5,000 bags of fertilizer and over 1,000 rice seedling packs to farmers in his constituency — part of a strategy to drive food security and reduce economic pressure on households.

“After witnessing the increase in crop yield last year following our fertilizer support, we’re scaling up efforts this year,” Ogah said. “These inputs are being distributed early to give our farmers a head start and ensure a rich harvest.”

He revealed the total education investment exceeds ₦200 million — broken down into ₦91 million for scholarships, ₦76 million for WAEC, ₦41 million for NECO, ₦5.6 million for JAMB, and ₦3.9 million set aside for inmates.

Ebonyi State First Lady, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, who attended the event, praised Ogah’s consistent community impact, describing him as a leader who embodies compassion and results. She noted that his efforts align perfectly with the administration’s development agenda, the People’s Charter of Needs.

“As founder of BERWO and a mother, I’m proud to witness such a thoughtful blend of educational and agricultural empowerment,” she said. “Farmers are at the heart of our local economy, and these inputs can truly change lives.”

Ogah’s initiative is being widely hailed as a model for grassroots-focused governance, merging human capital development with food system resilience.
