In a significant step towards poverty alleviation, the Ebonyi State Government has commenced the distribution of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) preloaded debit cards to more than 12,000 vulnerable households across the state.
The initiative, part of Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, was officially launched in Ebonyi by Governor Francis Nwifuru, who was represented by the Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Mrs. Ann Aligwe. The launch event took place at Re-Meritona Hotel in Abakaliki, the state capital.
According to Mrs. Aligwe, the programme aligns with the “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda of the present administration, designed to cushion the economic impact on underprivileged citizens.
“Thanks to the compassionate leadership of our Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Ebonyi has keyed into the Renewed Hope CCT programme to support our people. Unlike the usual 3-month disbursement, this phase covers two months of payment,” she explained.
Aligwe also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for responding to the needs of Ebonyi residents through Governor Nwifuru’s intervention.
Mrs. Icha Mercy, the State Programme Manager for the Renewed Hope CCT in Ebonyi, also expressed gratitude to both federal and state governments, noting that the financial support symbolizes love and commitment to grassroots development.
She advised beneficiaries to utilize the funds responsibly to improve their living standards.
Among the recipients, Mr. Idam Luke and Mrs. Ugbala Ngozi expressed heartfelt thanks to the federal government and Governor Nwifuru for the financial aid, describing it as timely and impactful.
This latest round of the Conditional Cash Transfer programme reinforces the Nigerian government’s dedication to reducing poverty and promoting social welfare under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
