In a significant move to de-escalate the political tension in Rivers State, a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, including Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has initiated peace talks between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The closed-door meeting took place at Wike’s private residence in Abuja and featured the presence of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and elder statesman Chief Olusegun Osoba, alongside Governor Nwifuru. Their mission: to broker peace in the ongoing leadership rift threatening stability in Rivers State.
Wike confirmed the visit while addressing journalists on Monday. “Fubara came to me with two governors and one elder statesman. Just that they are both APC governors. He said he wants peace,” the FCT Minister stated.
Sources close to the meeting revealed that Governor Fubara walked straight into Wike’s living room—a sign of their once-strong political bond, now strained by rivalry and power struggles.
Though no official resolutions were announced, the involvement of respected APC figures and the public confirmation by Wike signal a step toward reconciliation.
Governor Nwifuru’s participation underscores Ebonyi State’s rising influence in national affairs and its commitment to supporting peace and stability across Nigeria.
