Dr. Otuu Obinna Ogbonnia, a distinguished Ebonyian from Afikpo Local Government Area, Ugwuegu, has once again made history on the global stage. A Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Ogbonnia has now won the prestigious Best Tech Research Award, presented to him by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Prime Minister of Japan.
This incredible achievement is a testament to his hard work and brilliance in the field of technology. Dr. Ogbonnia, known for his innovative contributions, has developed technologies that are now used in the UK, including pioneering systems that enhance communication between vehicles. His groundbreaking work in developing the C2C (Car-to-Car) technology earned him recognition from the UK government, who awarded him for his remarkable development in the field.
Dr. Ogbonnia’s journey into international recognition began when he was named the best NITDA scholar in Nigeria, surpassing 513 contestants from across the country. This honor, awarded during the tenure of Senator Dave Umahi as Governor of Ebonyi State, propelled him to further study in Human-Computer Interaction and Artificial Intelligence in the UK. His continuous innovation in these fields has led to him becoming the first African to win the ACM Best Paper Award, standing out among 5,020 contestants.
Just months ago, the Ambassador of Nigeria to Japan hosted Dr. Ogbonnia at a banquet to celebrate this historic achievement. His award symbolizes a significant milestone for the African continent, as he becomes the first African to ever win this coveted international award, further solidifying his position as a global leader in technology.
