Abakaliki FC Face Nasarawa United in President Federation Cup Quarterfinal Showdown

Date:

Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi State, the surprise package of this year’s President Federation Cup, are set to take on Nasarawa United in what promises to be a thrilling quarterfinal encounter scheduled for tomorrow at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City by 4:00 p.m.

The amateur side stunned Nigerian football followers last week when they defeated former champions Enyimba FC of Aba with a commanding 2-0 victory in the round of 16. Their performance, widely described as the biggest upset of the tournament so far, earned them a deserved spot among the final eight teams battling for national glory.

With defending champions El-Kanemi Warriors already knocked out of the competition, the stage is set for a new champion to emerge—and Abakaliki FC are now seen as serious contenders despite their underdog status. Their upcoming match against Nasarawa United, a team battling internal challenges both on and off the pitch, is expected to be a test of resilience and tactical discipline.

Elsewhere, three other quarterfinal matches will take place simultaneously. Wikki Tourists will square off against Ikorodu City at the Bwari Stadium in Abuja, while Akwa United and Kwara United will meet at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. In another eagerly anticipated clash, Plateau United will take on Enugu Rangers at the Area 3 Stadium, Abuja.

The women’s round of 16 fixtures are also set to deliver drama and excitement across multiple venues. Rivers Angels will meet First Mahi Babes of Ebonyi State at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, while Remo Ladies of Ogun State go head-to-head with Dannaz Ladies of Lagos in Ibadan. Delta Queens are set to battle Ibom Angels in Enugu, and Onimarg of Ondo State will challenge Heartland Queens of Owerri in Benin City.

Additional women’s fixtures include Osun Babes taking on Edo Queens at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, and Mighty Jets Mata of Plateau State clashing with Unification FC of Lagos in Anyigba. Sunshine Queens of Ondo will test their strength against Confluence Queens of Kogi in Benin, while Nasarawa Amazons are billed to play Bayelsa Queens at the Awka Township Stadium.

As the competition intensifies, football fans across Nigeria are watching closely to see if Abakaliki FC can continue their fairy-tale run and carve their name into the annals of Nigerian football.
