Another Ebonyi Girl Rescued from Trafficking Attempt in Ghana

Date:

Just weeks after raising alarm over a similar case, another disturbing incident of attempted human trafficking involving a young girl from Ebonyi State has come to light.

The victim, identified simply as Chiamaka, hails from the Ezza community and was recently rescued in Ghana after falling prey to a fake job offer. According to a fellow Ebonyi indigene based in Ghana who helped bring her story forward, Chiamaka was lured with the promise of a cooking job that would pay ₦500,000 monthly—a sum far beyond typical earnings for such roles in the region.

Upon arrival in Accra, she was told to travel to another city in the Ashanti Region, where the true nature of the offer was revealed. Instead of a kitchen job, she was informed she would be forced into prostitution and would have to “serve” someone for two years before gaining her independence.

Chiamaka refused and sought help, eventually finding a support network through people familiar with her background. Through their intervention, she was rescued from the situation and is now seeking a safe return to Nigeria.

This incident follows closely after a previous report about an Ebonyi girl who was similarly deceived and brought into Ghana under the guise of employment, only to be introduced into sex trafficking. The frequency of such cases has raised serious concern among community leaders and advocates for women’s safety.

The rescuer, who has now assisted in more than one such case, warns that job offers promising large sums of money for unskilled roles are often scams designed to trap young girls into exploitation. “It’s getting out of hand,” he said, urging the Ebonyi State Government to take immediate and decisive action.

In his words, “There are no high-paying jobs for foreigners here, and the cost of living far exceeds what most can earn legally. These young girls are being tricked and abused. Something must be done.”

Human rights advocates continue to call for more awareness campaigns at the grassroots level, community vigilance, and stricter border and immigration monitoring to prevent the trafficking of vulnerable girls.

As efforts are made to reunite Chiamaka with her family, her case stands as another grim reminder of the dangers that await those who fall for fraudulent job schemes.
