Three Nigerian teenagers — Divine, Favour, and Bright, aged 17 to 19 — have been rescued from a sex trafficking network in Ghana and safely repatriated to Nigeria, with two victims from Ebonyi State, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has reported.
The young victims, originally from Ebonyi and Bayelsa States, were deceived into traveling to Ghana under the false pretense of securing high-paying job opportunities by women they trusted as “aunties.” Upon their arrival, they were forced into sex work as part of a trafficking operation.
After their rescue, the teenagers were received by NiDCOM at their Lagos office, where they were transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for counseling, profiling, and reintegration.
NiDCOM’s Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking and emphasized the need for greater accountability in Nigerian communities. She stated, “Human trafficking will persist unless traffickers and their agents are exposed and held accountable. It’s a global issue, and we must stop covering up for those responsible.”
Dabiri-Erewa also commended Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of the NIDO Ghana Board of Trustees, for his dedicated efforts in rescuing Nigerian trafficking victims. The Nigerian Embassy in Ghana was also praised for its role in the successful operation, while Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, was acknowledged for facilitating the safe return of the teenagers.
NiDCOM reported that more than 169 Nigerians, including several from Ebonyi State, have been rescued and repatriated from Ghana in recent months as part of continued efforts to combat human trafficking and exploitation.
