The debate culture in Ebonyi State is experiencing a powerful revival as One Youth Global intensifies its preparations for Spark Nation 2.0, a nationwide youth-driven initiative aimed at raising bold thinkers and community leaders through dialogue and competition.
In the build-up to this flagship event, the organization took debate straight to the heart of Ohaisu in Afikpo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. The outreach, which held at Ohaisu Community School, engaged four teachers and thirty students in a dynamic workshop that combined debate training with an interactive Q&A session. The atmosphere was described as “electric” as participants, many of whom were first-timers, actively engaged in discourse that sparked both critical thought and excitement.
According to the facilitators, the goal was to not only teach the mechanics of debate but to plant seeds of change-making in the minds of young people and educators. “This wasn’t just a workshop—it was a spark,” one organizer noted.
Simultaneously, in-house volunteers of One Youth Global participated in a rigorous internal championship, going head-to-head in passionate debates. This initiative was designed to prepare them as adjudicators for the upcoming Spark Nation 2.0. The sessions featured bold arguments, strategic rebuttals, and real-time feedback—ensuring that volunteers are not only skilled but also confident enough to uphold the integrity of the competition.
“These volunteers are iron sharpening iron,” said a program coordinator. “They’re being groomed to lead, judge, and inspire.”
The coming months are packed with activities, including:
- Teachers’ Debate Training – 30th April
- Spark Nation Hour – Every Saturday
- LGA-Level Debate Rounds – May 2025
- Spark Nation 2.0 – June 2025
As the movement grows, One Youth Global continues to position debate as a transformative tool—one conversation, one competition, and one community at a time.
