Tinubu’s Superhighway Project to End South-East Infrastructure Neglect

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured that the newly launched superhighway project will bring an end to the South-East’s long-standing infrastructure neglect. Represented by Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, at the flag-off in Afikpo, Tinubu described the 118.85km road as a transformative initiative set to boost regional connectivity and national unity.

Speaking through Governor Francis Nwifuru at the official flag-off of the Ebonyi segment of the 118.85-kilometer superhighway project in Afikpo, Tinubu highlighted the strategic significance of the road. He described it as a transformative infrastructure venture that would enhance connectivity across the South-East, South-South, and North-Central regions.

“This project will redefine infrastructure development in Nigeria,” Tinubu stated. “With competent hands at the helm and strong mobilization already on ground, I’m confident in its timely and successful delivery.”

Governor Nwifuru hailed the event as a monumental achievement for both Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large.

This is more than just a road project; it’s a major step towards uniting the country through enhanced connectivity,” he noted.

The superhighway will originate from Ndibe Beach in Afikpo Local Government Area and cut across Ukwuachi-Mbeke Ishieke in Ebonyi LGA. From there, it will connect to the Enugu-Abakaliki/Ogoja Highway, extending through Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa States, and ending in Abuja. The road will also link Odukpani to Calabar in Cross River State, reinforcing regional access and trade routes.

Nwifuru applauded Senator David Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, for his foresight and dedication to the project.

“Senator Umahi recognized the significance of this route—not just for logistics and commerce—but for reconnecting Nigerians through shared infrastructure,” he said.

He emphasized that Ebonyi, despite its rich resources in agriculture, solid minerals, and trade, has faced setbacks due to limited transport links. He expressed optimism that this highway would change the narrative.

This development will boost access to markets for farmers, cut down transportation expenses for traders, improve student mobility, and create jobs for our youth,” Nwifuru added.

He pledged the state’s unwavering support to the Federal Ministry of Works and all stakeholders involved, ensuring local ownership and protection of the project.

This highway is ours. We’ll safeguard it and ensure its success,” he concluded.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone as both Governor Nwifuru and Minister Umahi officially launched construction activities on what is being tagged a historic leap in Nigeria’s infrastructural development.
