Onueke, Ebonyi State – April 15, 2025Former Governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, made a grand return to the state today, arriving through the Onueke International Airport in preparation for the official flag-off of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa Super Highway project, scheduled for April 16, 2025.
The arrival of Umahi, a key figure in the development of the state’s infrastructure, was met with enthusiasm by government officials and community members, who gathered at the airport to welcome him back to Ebonyi. His return marked a significant moment for many, as it was through the very airport he helped establish that he returned to continue his work on projects aimed at transforming the region.
“I am excited to be back in Ebonyi, where we laid the groundwork for development,” Umahi said upon his arrival. “It’s rewarding to see the impact of the initiatives we launched still thriving.”
During his visit, Umahi also revisited some of the flagship projects he initiated during his tenure, including the Ebonyi State Christian Ecumenical Centre and the Ebonyi Shopping Mall, which have continued to play vital roles in the region’s growth.
Speaking on the importance of infrastructure development, Umahi expressed his satisfaction with the continued progress under the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. “Governance is about continuity,” he noted, praising Nwifuru’s efforts to build on the foundation of progress laid by his administration.
The upcoming flag-off of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa Super Highway is expected to be a landmark event for the state. Umahi reaffirmed his support for the project, highlighting its potential to foster economic growth, improve inter-state connectivity, and enhance trade across the region.
“The Onueke International Airport is a symbol of our commitment to progress, and the coastal super highway will undoubtedly become a major catalyst for economic transformation,” he concluded.
