Another Tragic Crash in Ebonyi: Seven Dead, Others Injured in Onueke Accident

Date:

Barely hours after previous reports of road mishaps in the state, Ebonyi has witnessed yet another fatal crash, leaving seven people dead and several others injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 7:30 pm in the Nwafia Oga area of Onueke, within the Ezza South Local Government Area.

Confirming the development on Monday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi, Mr. Henry Igwe, confirmed that the crash involved a commercial Toyota bus with registration number UWN 429 ZY and an articulated truck bearing plate number XW 294 ENU.

According to him, 20 passengers were onboard the two vehicles. Sadly, seven individuals—four men and three women—lost their lives on the spot. Two women sustained varying degrees of injury and were promptly taken to St. Saviour Hospital, Onueke, for treatment.

Igwe further revealed that 11 persons, including eight women, two men, and a child, survived the crash unscathed.

Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speeding was a major factor in the accident. “Our team has launched a full investigation to establish all the facts surrounding the crash,” Igwe stated.

The remains of the deceased have since been moved to the morgue at Onueke General Hospital.

In a message to motorists, the FRSC commander emphasized the importance of road safety. “We urge all drivers to reduce speed and obey traffic signs. Life is precious—and only the living can continue their journey,” he warned.

This latest accident adds to the growing concern over road safety in Ebonyi State and underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
