The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has reaffirmed its support for Rt. Hon. S.K.E. Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary, dispelling uncertainties following the recent Supreme Court ruling involving Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Hon. Richard Nwali, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, emphasized that the party remains united and devoid of factions. He stated that the National Working Committee (NWC) would soon meet to formalize the leadership structure, although Ude-Okoye’s role as National Secretary is already widely recognized within the party.
Speaking on the strength of the PDP in Ebonyi State, Nwali affirmed that the party is active, organized, and well-positioned to challenge for power in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He clarified that only one congress was conducted at all levels—ward, local government, and state—which produced a single State Working Committee led by Chief Onyema Nwene.
“There has never been any parallel congress in Ebonyi. The PDP here is unified, deeply rooted, and fully functional across all zones,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the departure of some prominent figures, including Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Nwali insisted that individual defections do not diminish the PDP’s strong grassroots presence. He noted that political relevance is not determined by online noise or social media engagement but by actual voter support at the polls.
“Having a voter’s card is not the same as having the people’s mandate. The PDP remains a mass movement with the capacity to reclaim its rightful place in 2027,” he added.
On possible alliances ahead of the elections, Nwali made it clear that the PDP is not considering any merger or coalition. He stressed that the party has capable leaders and vibrant structures that can deliver electoral success independently.
“We are not looking at any form of coalition. Our goal is to consolidate internally and emerge stronger as we prepare for the next elections,” he stated.
He also criticized the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, citing rising inflation, insecurity, and the breakdown of essential services as evidence of failed leadership.
“On a performance scale, I’d give them 20%. Nigerians are struggling to feed, education is underfunded, and safety remains a major concern. The country deserves a government that works for the people,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Nwali emphasized that the PDP continues to play its role as the main opposition, holding the ruling party accountable through various advocacy and engagement efforts.
With its internal structure now solidified, the PDP in Ebonyi State is optimistic about regaining political control, both within the state and on the national stage. The party believes it is on the right path to make a strong comeback in 2027.
