Ebonyi Monarchs Praise Governor’s Wife and EBSHIA for Royal Eye Care Initiative

Date:

Traditional rulers in Ebonyi State have expressed deep appreciation to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and his wife, Mrs. Uzoamaka Maudline Nwifuru, for launching a free eye screening and surgery program tailored specifically for royal fathers across the state.

The health initiative, held in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA), is aimed at enhancing the well-being of monarchs by addressing vision challenges and enrolling them in the state’s health insurance scheme.

Speaking at the event, HRH Eze S.N. Oketa of Nkaliki Echera Unuhu Autonomous Community praised the governor’s wife for extending healthcare support to traditional leaders. “This shows we haven’t been forgotten,” he said. “We’re truly grateful for the inclusion and care.”

Similarly, HRH Eze Boniface Alo Nwokiocha of Amachi and HRH Eze Patrick Okoaha of Isiogo Afikpo described the eye screening as timely and impactful, especially for elders who often deal with age-related eye conditions. They called it one of the most thoughtful gestures toward traditional institutions in recent times.

Chairman of the Ebonyi Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Charles Mkpuma, said the programme met a pressing need. “Many of us have eye issues, and this gesture means a lot,” he noted. “We sincerely appreciate the governor’s wife for recognizing our health needs.”

Prof. Mrs. Emma Nkechinyere Echeagu, team lead of BERWO, also commended the effort, revealing that they partnered with NNPC to address cataract cases among the monarchs. “These rulers are the gatekeepers of our communities. Prioritizing their health is a step in the right direction,” she added.

According to her, around 120 traditional rulers across Ebonyi are expected to benefit. The programme also included vital checks like blood pressure monitoring and health insurance enrollment to ensure ongoing access to medical care.

Dr. Divine Okemefula Igwe, Executive Secretary of EBSHIA, emphasized the agency’s dedication to inclusive healthcare delivery. “We’re proud to support Her Excellency’s vision of bringing healthcare closer to all, especially our royal fathers who hold vital roles in our society,” he stated.

This initiative marks another milestone in Ebonyi State’s drive to provide equitable healthcare and promote wellness across all sectors of society.
