The Ebonyi State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt at Mile 50 Layout in Abakaliki, recovering a stolen Toyota Sienna during the operation.
Confirming the incident on Monday, police spokesperson SP Joshua Ukandu stated that officers acted swiftly after receiving a distress call around 8:30 p.m. on March 30. The report indicated that a kidnapping was in progress, prompting a rapid response team to track the suspects.
The kidnappers, who were using an ash-colored Toyota Corolla with registration number SKA 828 AA, were pursued by officers to Tina Nweze Street. Under intense pressure, the criminals abandoned their victim, identified as Nneka Onyibe, and fled, leaving behind both the Toyota Corolla and Onyibe’s Toyota Sienna.
According to Ukandu, both vehicles were successfully recovered and taken to the command headquarters for proper identification and handover to their rightful owners.
Reassuring residents of their safety, Commissioner of Police CP Adaku Uche-Anya emphasized the command’s commitment to combating crime. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activity or emergencies by contacting the police control room at 07064515001.
