Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has directed the arrest of six commissioners and suspended Afikpo Local Government Chairman, Timothy Nwachi, over alleged violations of contract terms related to a state housing project.
The following commissioners have been implicated for allegedly failing to ensure the timely completion of a 140-unit housing project for the Izzo and Amaze communities:
- Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education)
- Victor Chukwu (Environment)
- Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism)
- Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters)
- Moses Ekuma (Health)
- Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring)
A special committee investigating the project cited negligence and non-compliance as reasons for the crackdown. The state government has vowed to hold those responsible accountable, ensuring that public projects meet expected standards and deadlines.
This move follows earlier disciplinary actions by Governor Nwifuru against officials for misconduct and absenteeism. Investigations are ongoing, with more individuals possibly facing legal action.
Update:
The Ebonyi State Government has now dismissed reports claiming that Governor Nwifuru ordered the arrest of the six commissioners and a local government chairman.
Chief Donatus Ilang, Chairman of the Ebonyi Executive Council Committee on Housing Projects, has described these claims as “false and unfounded,” urging the public to verify the information with security agencies.
We will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as they become available.
