Police Arrest Suspect for Alleged Motorcycle Theft and Murder in Ebonyi

Date:

Ebonyi State police have taken 23-year-old Wisdom Ogbonna into custody for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and killing its owner.

Police spokesperson SP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

According to Ukandu, the suspect was apprehended in Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area. He explained that officers responded to a distress call at 135 Ezzamgbo Oshegbe Road on March 26 at approximately 7:10 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Ugwoke Chibuike, who had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Investigations suggest that Ogbonna was riding as a passenger on Chibuike’s motorcycle when he allegedly attacked him, attempting to steal the bike. The victim reportedly lost control, causing injuries to the suspect as well.

“The suspect later sought medical attention, claiming he had been in an accident with the deceased,” Ukandu said. “However, a knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene.”

Authorities have launched further investigations and confirmed that Ogbonna will be charged in court upon completion of the inquiry.
