The Ebonyi State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Norwegian Government to advance healthcare, education, water supply, and renewable energy. Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru made this announcement while hosting Norway’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Baera, at the Government House in Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized that his administration is focused on human capital development and improving essential services, particularly for women and children. He called on the Norwegian government to support projects that will equip rural hospitals and primary healthcare centers with modern medical facilities.
“We acknowledge Norway’s contributions to Nigeria, particularly through NORCAP, which has played a significant role in establishing schools. Many of our people have benefited from this initiative. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration in critical areas such as solar energy, clean water supply, and healthcare improvement,” Nwifuru stated.
Additionally, the governor urged the Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT), an NGO focused on healthcare, to enhance its primary healthcare centers in the state to provide better maternal and child health services.
In response, Ambassador Baera praised the state government’s commitment to improving education and healthcare. He noted that his visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for further collaboration.
“I have heard about your achievements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, and seeing the progress firsthand has been remarkable. As an ambassador, I believe it is important to visit various regions of Nigeria beyond Abuja and Lagos to gain deeper insights into the country’s development needs,” Baera remarked.
He also shared plans to visit the Norwegian College of Agriculture, established over 60 years ago, as part of ongoing efforts to support sustainable development in Ebonyi State.
This partnership is expected to accelerate Ebonyi’s development goals by providing improved access to essential services for its residents.
