Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) has indefinitely suspended a student over allegations of cult-related activities during the university’s matriculation ceremony held on March 14, 2025.
In an official statement signed on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Elom, the university described the act as a serious violation of its rules and regulations.
“The Vice-Chancellor has considered the report on the allegation of cult-related behavior leveled against you based on the display of cultism as shown on March 14, 2025, during the matriculation ceremony of the university,” the statement read.
The university reminded the student of their matriculation oath, emphasizing that cultism and related activities are strictly prohibited on campus.
Following the allegations, the Vice-Chancellor, acting on behalf of the Senate, directed an indefinite suspension until the Students’ Disciplinary Committee concludes its investigation.
“You are hereby suspended from the university indefinitely pending the outcome of the investigation,” the letter further stated.
This latest development underscores AE-FUNAI’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism, which has been strongly emphasized by the institution in previous years.
The university administration has consistently warned students against involvement in cultism, prostitution, and other social vices. During the 2024 matriculation ceremony, Prof. Sunday Elom had reiterated that any student caught engaging in such activities would face immediate suspension or expulsion.
With this new case, all eyes will be on the Students’ Disciplinary Committee as the investigation unfolds.
The university is expected to release further details once the investigation is concluded. Meanwhile, students have been urged to adhere to campus regulations to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
