Ebonyi State Suspends Three Commissioners, Approves Key Projects

The Ebonyi State Executive Council convened on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the EXCO Chambers in Abakaliki, with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru presiding. The meeting focused on governance, accountability, and key development initiatives.

Suspended Commissioners

Governor Nwifuru has suspended three commissioners for one month due to unauthorized absence from the council meeting. The affected officials include:

  • Hon. Solomon Azi – Grants and Donor Agencies
  • Rt. Hon. Victor Uzoma Chukwu – Environment
  • Hon. Barr. Ikeuwa Omebe – Rural Development

During the suspension period, they will forfeit all official privileges. The governor emphasized the importance of commitment to duty and warned against negligence among public officials.

Key Government Approvals

  1. NYSC Camp, Afikpo: Approval for staff quarters, a female hostel, and a health clinic.
  2. Water Resources: ₦40 million allocated for a central storage facility.
  3. Industrial City, Ezzamgbo: Work on a six-hectare site begins March 19, 2025.
  4. Ebonyi Trade Centre: Integrity test approved before renovations.
  5. EBSU Law Team Honored: Winners of the African Moot Court Competition awarded ₦3 million each.

Governor Nwifuru also warned contractors to complete projects on time or face legal action.
