IWD 2025: Ebonyi Governor’s Wife, Ex-Senate President Celebrate Women’s Achievements

Date:

As the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and Ebonyi State First Lady, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru, have commended the invaluable contributions of women in shaping society, emphasizing their roles as pillars of families, the economy, and the future.

In separate messages celebrating the global event, they called for enhanced gender equality, empowerment, and the elimination of barriers hindering women’s progress.

Mrs. Nwifuru, through a statement by her press secretary, Ms. Nnenna Oshibe, extended her heartfelt appreciation to the women of Ebonyi State, recognizing their significant roles in driving community and societal development.

Highlighting the 2025 IWD theme, Accelerate Action, she urged for greater efforts in promoting gender equity, economic empowerment, and amplifying women’s voices in decision-making.

“This theme is a clarion call for all of us to step up and push for a world where women and girls have equal opportunities. The time for action is now,” she emphasized.

She reaffirmed her dedication to advancing policies that uplift women through education, economic initiatives, and advocacy against gender-based violence. Acknowledging the progress made under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s leadership, she noted increased access to education, women-focused empowerment programs, improved healthcare, and stronger anti-violence measures.

Anyim Pius Anyim Advocates for Gender Inclusion

Similarly, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, in his personal statement, described women as the foundation of homes and architects of a progressive future.

On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of every woman and girl in Nigeria and beyond. You are the driving force of our homes, economy, and collective future,” he said.

Emphasizing the need for swift action in closing gender gaps, he stated:

“It is not enough to acknowledge inequality—we must dismantle it. It is not enough to admire women’s achievements—we must create more opportunities. It is not enough to condemn gender-based violence—we must eradicate it.”

Anyim pledged support for policies that protect women from violence, empower female entrepreneurs, enhance girls’ access to education, and ensure inclusive workplaces.

Beyond policies, real change starts with mindset shifts. Fathers must teach their daughters to see no limits. Brothers must stand as protectors of their sisters’ rights. Husbands must treat their wives as equal partners. When women thrive, families and nations thrive,” he added.

A Call for Collective Action

Both leaders urged governments, organizations, and individuals to take proactive steps toward fostering an inclusive society where every woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Your voice matters, your dreams are valid, and your contributions shape the world. May you continue to shine and achieve greatness,” Mrs. Nwifuru concluded.
