The political landscape of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East has taken a dramatic turn as Chief Ali Odefa finds himself at the center of a legal and political contradiction.
On February 26, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, upheld Odefa’s expulsion from the PDP. Ruling on suit no. FHC/CS/AI/227/2024, Justice Hilary I. O. Oshomah affirmed that the expulsion—carried out by the party’s Oguduokwor Ward executive on December 12, 2024, over allegations of anti-party activities—remains valid.
However, in a surprising development, the PDP’s South-East zonal congress in Enugu re-elected Odefa as the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-East) on the same day. The contradiction between the court’s decision and the party’s internal election has sparked debates over the legitimacy of his position.
As of now, the PDP’s national leadership has not issued a statement regarding the legal ruling, leaving many wondering how this internal dispute will unfold. Will the party stand by its court-recognized expulsion, or will it uphold the decision of its zonal congress?
