A fresh wave of violence has erupted in Effium Autonomous Community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as a man identified as Godwin Odah was gruesomely killed by suspected Ezza warlords.
Odah, a resident of Akparata village, was attacked on Monday and beheaded, with other parts of his body severed at the back of his compound.
When contacted, Ebonyi State Police Spokesperson, ASP Joshua Ukandu, stated that the command had not yet received any report of the attack. However, President-General of Effium Town Union, Dr. Agena James, confirmed the killing and said he had formally notified Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“This morning, at about 11:30 AM, Ezza warriors killed Godwin Odah at the back of his compound in Akparata village. This is disheartening despite ongoing peace efforts. We demand the immediate arrest of the perpetrators to ensure justice,” he stated.
Dr. James also expressed concern that the Ezza-Effium conflict was once again escalating, jeopardizing ongoing reconciliation efforts. The victim was reportedly mutilated in what he described as a barbaric act.
