Suspected Herdsmen Attack Ebonyi Community, Leaving Many Dead and Injured

Date:

A deadly attack by suspected herdsmen has left several residents dead and many others injured in Amegu Nkalaha Community, located in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the assailants, armed with guns and machetes, stormed the community, killing multiple people and setting houses ablaze. However, the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.

The Chairman of Ishielu LGA, Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, stated that authorities were still evacuating victims’ bodies.

“We are in the process of transporting the deceased to the mortuary. Further details will be provided as more information becomes available,” she said.

A community member, Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a former ASUU Chairman at Ebonyi State University, confirmed the attack, calling it a tragic incident.

“My village, Amegu Nkalaha, was attacked today. Many lives were lost, and homes were burned down. It is truly a black Sunday,” he lamented.

Prof. Idenyi further revealed that the attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, with many victims still unaccounted for, particularly those who were in their farms during the assault.

When contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that he was not yet aware of the attack but assured that updates would be provided in due course.
