Ebonyi Government Refutes Claims of Aide’s Arrest Over Alleged N200m Contract Fraud

Date:

The Ebonyi State Government has dismissed reports alleging the arrest and investigation of Mr. Chukwuma Nwiboko, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Project Monitoring, over a purported N200 million contract scandal.

In a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr. Leo Oketa, and made available to Leadership News, the government clarified that Nwiboko has neither been arrested nor is under investigation by any security agency. The statement further emphasized that no such contract was awarded to him.

Oketa criticized certain media outlets for spreading false claims that Nwiboko had been detained for three days and was under investigation for either N200 million or N200 billion in contracts.

“This claim is completely false and misleading,” Oketa stated.

He explained that Governor Nwifuru is actively reviewing ongoing projects, particularly the construction of traditional rulers’ duplexes, ensuring accountability among contractors. Nwiboko, as the SSA on Project Monitoring, is responsible for identifying contractors failing to meet project standards and reporting their progress to the governor.

The statement further clarified that Nwiboko was only present at the police station briefly as a witness in an ongoing investigation involving some contractors. It reaffirmed that he continues to carry out his official duties as assigned by the governor.

The government reiterated its commitment to transparency and delivering quality projects to the people of Ebonyi State.
