Corps Member Dies, Others Injured in Ebonyi Road Accident

Date:

A tragic road accident in Ebonyi State on January 22, 2024, claimed the life of an unidentified female prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. The incident occurred as 12 prospective corps members were en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Afikpo Local Government Area.

The 14-seater bus they were traveling in collided with a parked truck in the Amenu community, Okposi. While the deceased succumbed to her injuries, other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences for treatment.

Eyewitnesses attributed the crash to excessive speed. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ebonyi Sector Commander, Igwe Henry, confirmed the accident but could not provide detailed casualty information as the victims were already rescued by bystanders before FRSC officers arrived.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Foluke Oladeinde, confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details as she was at the hospital at the time.

The accident has drawn attention to road safety concerns for travelers, particularly corps members heading to orientation camps across the country.
