Three years after his alleged abduction, Sir Nwoba Chika Nwoba, the Ebonyi State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recounted a terrifying experience involving the state’s Ebubeagu security outfit.
The incident, which occurred on January 10, 2022, saw Nwoba reportedly kidnapped in Abakaliki while attending a PDP State Working Committee meeting. According to his detailed account shared via his verified Facebook page, the abduction was orchestrated after a chance meeting with a protocol officer connected to the then-Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Moments after leaving a filling station in Abakaliki, Ebubeagu personnel intercepted his vehicle, resorting to violence that included gunfire and pepper spray. Nwoba narrowly escaped further harm thanks to the intervention of the police Anti-Kidnap Unit, which arrived on the scene to rescue him despite resistance from the security outfit.
He revealed that after his rescue, the State Government attempted to implicate him in murder charges, leading to his detention and a series of legal battles. Nwoba alleged that his life was repeatedly threatened, with reports of orders for his assassination.
Despite the trauma, Nwoba expressed gratitude to those who supported his eventual release, including the intervention of the then-Inspector General of Police. His story sheds light on the troubling actions of the Ebubeagu security outfit and their alleged misuse of power.
