The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided financial support of N200,000 each to 250 elderly citizens in Ebonyi State as part of the second phase of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme.
Represented by Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Senator Tinubu emphasized the scheme’s commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens annually. She noted that members of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) would also benefit from the initiative.
With the theme, “Total Wellness: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle,” the programme aims to promote the overall well-being of the elderly. Mrs. Nwifuru highlighted that the grant was increased from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide greater assistance during the festive season.
In addition to the financial aid, the beneficiaries have been enrolled in the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Programme through Mrs. Nwifuru’s Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation.
Mrs. Nwifuru disclosed that each state, including the FCT, received N50 million for the distribution of the grants, totaling N1.9 billion nationwide. Beneficiaries will also receive free medical check-ups and wellness items.
Commending the coordinators and state partners, Mrs. Tinubu thanked everyone who contributed to the initiative’s success. She also encouraged the beneficiaries to prioritize their health during the festive period by eating well, staying hydrated, and engaging in light physical activities.
