Rev. Bright Igwe has accused an independent oil marketer, Chief Ernest Ndukwe, also known as Yar’dua, and his associates of assaulting him along the Ishiagu road in Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
The alleged attack involved dangerous weapons, with the clergyman claiming that items worth over N650,000 were taken from him, including N250,000 in cash and an Infinix Note 40 Pro Max smartphone valued at N400,000. He also reported receiving threatening messages from the attackers, accusing him of fraud and vowing to silence him permanently.
Rev. Igwe described the incident as an attempted assassination, adding that he was rescued by passersby. Despite filing a report with the Ebonyi State Police Command, he expressed frustration over the lack of action against the perpetrators.
The clergyman, who was hospitalised at the Military Cantonment Hospital in Nkwegu, said he still fears for his life due to ongoing threats.
In response, Chief Ndukwe denied the allegations, describing them as unfounded and defamatory. He confirmed that the matter is being investigated by the police. Attempts to reach the Ebonyi State Police spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, for comments were unsuccessful.
