Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has overseen the completion of 29 road projects in Ebonyi State, with another 20 currently under construction.
Stanley Lebechi Mbam, the State Commissioner for Works, shared this update at a press briefing in Abakaliki, explaining that these roads fall under the jurisdiction of the Works Ministry. Other infrastructure projects across the state are being handled by ministries such as Infrastructure for Concessions and Housing and Urban Development.
As part of ongoing efforts to improve road access, the administration is building 2 km of roads in each autonomous community throughout the state. Mbam also highlighted numerous other impactful projects initiated by Governor Nwifuru, which are at various stages of completion, and urged critics to reconsider their views based on factual information.
Notable road projects, both completed and underway, include the 1.2 km Mile 50 New Layout internal road in Abakaliki, the 2.1 km main water works road in Ishielu, the 7.23 km Iziogo-Ndiokeda road, the 10 km Ezillo-Ezzagu road, the 11.823 km Oferekpe Agbaja internal road, and the 12.239 km Okposi-Ojigwe road, among others. Additionally, the second phase of internal road rehabilitation in the capital city is set to begin soon.
Concerning the Vanco Junction flyover project, Mbam addressed public concerns over its pace, assuring that construction is progressing according to plan and will be completed within 18 months. He also announced that a road diversion would soon take place as part of the next phase of the project, which includes the excavation of a tunnel. Alternative routes will be provided to ensure smooth traffic flow during this period.
