New executive officers of the Ebonyi State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) were chosen on Friday during an election held at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
The results were announced by Emeka Opara, Chairman of the State SWAN Electoral Committee. He declared Mr. Ndubuisi Nwogha of Glorious FM, Abakaliki, as the State Chairman, having emerged with the highest number of votes among the contenders.
Other key positions were also filled. Cosmas Egba of Unity FM (Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria) was elected as Secretary General, Uthulor Brenda Chidinma of the Voice Newspaper secured the role of Financial Secretary, and Chukwuma Nwebonyi Ogbonna was elected Treasurer. Each candidate won decisively over their rivals.
In his remarks, the Electoral Committee Chairman emphasized the need for inclusiveness, urging the new executives to focus on improving members’ welfare and fostering unity within the association.
The election process was overseen by the SWAN Southeast Zone Vice President, Ikemefuna Asika, alongside other national observers, including Comrade Tony Nwizi, the Director General of the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation. They commended the orderly conduct of the election and reaffirmed their support for the association’s growth and member welfare.
Immediately after the election, the newly elected officers were sworn in by Barr. Bene Edwin Onwe. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Barr. Richard Idike, and Mr. Lawrence Orji, the Director of Youth in the ministry, among others.
