Former PDP Lawmakers Nwonu and Nomeh Join APC in Ebonyi

Date:

Former House of Representatives member, Anayo Edwin Nwonu, and serving State House of Assembly member, Chikodiri Nomeh, both representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency and Ezza North West State Constituency respectively, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their defection, along with thousands of supporters, was announced during an event organized by the state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, in Ebiaji, Ezza North.

This move follows the recent defection of Chief Lazarus Ogbee, Peter Edeh, and Livinus Makwe, former federal lawmakers, to the APC, along with their supporters. Nwonu initially contested for the governorship election on the PDP platform but lost the party’s ticket. Subsequently, he joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) but faced defeat in the court. The defectors were welcomed into the APC by the state Chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, and stakeholders of Ezza North local government and Ebonyi Central zone.

Chief Lazarus Ogbee, a stakeholder of the zone, hailed Nwonu as a political stalwart and emphasized the need for unity and development in the state. He called for an end to internal discord within Ebonyi Central zone, urging support for Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration.

In their statements, Nwonu and Nomeh cited Governor Nwifuru’s impactful policies and programs as the driving force behind their decision to join the APC. They expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 local government elections.

Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha urged party stakeholders to prioritize peace and unity, emphasizing the detrimental effects of internal conflicts on the party’s success. He called for forgiveness and reconciliation among members, stressing the importance of unity for future achievements.
