In a move aimed at boosting food sufficiency in Ebonyi State, the non-governmental organization SheGrowsHerFood announced plans to disburse a loan of N3 million to women farmers in the region. This initiative is part of the organization’s efforts to empower women in agriculture throughout 2025.
The national coordinator of SheGrowsHerFood, Mrs. Comfort Nweke, also praised rural farmers in Izzi Local Government Area for successfully repaying the N7 million loan provided for the 2024 farming season.
The initiative, which operates under the Association of Micro Credit Institutions (AMCIN), aims to support women in agriculture and improve food security by providing necessary financial backing to encourage sustainable farming practices.
Speaking during the annual prayer summit held at the Centenary City in Abakaliki, Mrs. Nweke expressed gratitude to cooperative societies working towards the goals of the association. She shared the organization’s success in helping rural farmers, highlighting the return of the N7 million loan and the significant progress made in improving farmers’ livelihoods.
“This year, we plan to provide N3 million each to our women groups in agriculture to enhance food production. Our focus remains on empowering women for sustainable food security because without food, there is no growth,” she said.
The organization’s work highlights its continued commitment to serving the marginalized rural populations by supporting women in agriculture, ensuring long-term economic empowerment, and improving food security in the community.
