The Ebonyi State Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (EBSMEDA), in collaboration with key stakeholders across the public and private sectors, recently convened a high-level engagement meeting to strengthen its commitment to the State Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) initiative.
The meeting, which was held under the leadership of the Director General of EBSMEDA and State Focal Person on SABER, Dr. Stephen I. Odo, brought together representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), alongside major players in the state’s business ecosystem. The objective was to review the current Action Plan for the SABER initiative and align all parties towards achieving a more conducive business environment in Ebonyi State.
Discussions at the meeting focused on critical areas such as strategic reforms, inter-agency collaboration, and the development of measurable actions to improve the ease of doing business across the state. Dr. Odo emphasized the importance of unified efforts among government institutions and private sector players, noting that the meeting was an opportunity to streamline processes, eliminate barriers, and promote investor confidence.
In attendance were representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Trade and Investment, and the Ministry of Skill Development and Job Creation. Also present were key stakeholders from the National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), Coalition of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Ebonyi Civil Society Organisations (EB-CSO), Ebonyi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (EBCCIMA), Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN), various artisan groups, and the Rice Farmers Association.
The presence of these groups underscored a strong multi-sectoral commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive economy where small businesses can thrive. Participants expressed optimism about the direction of the reforms and pledged their support toward full implementation of the action plan.
EBSMEDA, through this engagement, reaffirmed its role in fostering partnerships and promoting reforms that will open up economic opportunities for businesses and communities across the state. As Ebonyi continues to position itself as a business-friendly destination, the agency assured stakeholders of its readiness to maintain active engagement and drive progress on key indicators for sustainable development.
The meeting ended with a collective agreement to maintain open communication channels and accountability frameworks, ensuring that the reforms translate into tangible outcomes for the people of Ebonyi State.
