Topfaith University, DUFUHS Seal Academic Partnership to Boost Medical Education in Nigeria

Date:

Topfaith University and David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) have agreed to collaborate on academic and research initiatives aimed at strengthening health education and medical training in Nigeria.

The development followed a strategic visit by a delegation from Topfaith University to the DUFUHS main campus in Uburu, Ebonyi State. The meeting brought together principal officers from both institutions to explore areas of cooperation that will enhance student learning, faculty development, and healthcare research delivery.

Leading the Topfaith delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Ebewo, described the engagement as a significant step toward building a structured framework for joint academic programmes and research collaboration between the two universities.

According to him, Topfaith University, as a fast-growing private institution in Akwa Ibom State, is committed to producing graduates equipped with practical skills, sound character, and professional competence. He noted that the partnership would strengthen its drive to deliver quality medical and health sciences education.

Ebewo also expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of DUFUHS, Prof. Jesse Uneke, and the management team for hosting the delegation and fostering a shared vision for institutional growth.

In his remarks, Prof. Uneke commended the leadership of Topfaith University, particularly its founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, for establishing the institution and investing in education from foundational to tertiary levels.

Uneke reaffirmed DUFUHS’ readiness to support the development of Topfaith University’s emerging Faculty of Medical Sciences. He disclosed that the collaboration would provide access to DUFUHS’ specialised Centres of Excellence, including its Renal, Cancer, and Eye research facilities, known for advanced medical research and professional training.

He outlined key areas of partnership to include:

  • Staff and student exchange programmes
  • Joint research projects and publications
  • Collaborative grant applications
  • Curriculum benchmarking and academic mentoring

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the partnership aligns with the shared goal of improving healthcare education standards and expanding research impact in Nigeria.

Dr. Emmanuel Abraham described the outreach initiative as deliberate and innovation-driven. He offered to share Topfaith University’s flagship curriculum on Character and Leadership Education with DUFUHS to promote ethical grounding and leadership development among medical students.

He emphasized the importance of training healthcare professionals who are not only clinically competent but also morally responsible.

Both institutions agreed to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to define the scope and implementation of the partnership.

The academic alliance is expected to strengthen medical programmes at Topfaith University while positioning DUFUHS to broaden its research collaborations and institutional reach within Nigeria’s higher education and healthcare sectors.
