Desist From Social Media Attacks or Face Sanctions” – Amasiri Traditional Council Backs Nwifuru

Date:

The Essa/Ichie Traditional Ruling Council of Amasiri Autonomous Community in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has announced plans to sanction indigenes who criticize Governor Francis Nwifuru on social media, citing the customs and traditions of the community.

In a communiqué released after its Monday meeting, the council — regarded as the apex traditional authority in Amasiri — condemned what it described as persistent and provocative online attacks targeting the Ebonyi State governor.

The council reiterated its loyalty to Governor Nwifuru and directed members of the Amasiri community to refrain from further social media criticism. It warned that anyone who disregards the directive would face traditional sanctions in line with Amasiri’s customary laws.

According to the statement, the community remains committed to sustaining peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities across Afikpo LGA and Ebonyi State.

“We strongly reaffirm our support for the governor and urge our people to desist from further online attacks against our governor or be ready to face consequences under our customs and traditions,” the communiqué stated.

The traditional rulers also appealed for unity, calm, and respect for constituted authorities, emphasizing that sensitive matters should be addressed through lawful and established channels rather than public confrontations.

They cautioned that repeated petitions and public accusations against the governor could heighten tensions and undermine ongoing peace-building efforts within Amasiri and surrounding communities.

The council assured residents that traditional leaders are actively engaging security agencies and relevant government authorities to ensure justice, transparency, and lasting peace in the area.

Reacting to the recent killing in neighbouring Okporojo community, the Amasiri Traditional Council strongly condemned the incident, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.

The leaders pledged full support for Ebonyi State Government’s efforts to identify and prosecute those responsible. They reaffirmed their commitment to preventing further violence and promoting stability between Amasiri, Oso Edda, Okporojo, and other neighbouring communities.

The council stressed that it would collaborate with the Ebonyi State Government to find a sustainable resolution to the ongoing tensions and restore harmony in the region.
