As 2026 Unfolds, Ebonyi Lawmaker Unveils Major Projects in Edda.

Date:

The member representing Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Idu Igariwey, has executed major infrastructure projects in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, including strategic road construction and the development of a modern civic centre.

The federal lawmaker also assured constituents that all ongoing projects across the constituency will be fully completed in 2026, stressing that providing tangible dividends of democracy remains a core responsibility of his mandate.

Igariwey disclosed this during a town hall meeting held on Monday at the Osisioma Cultural Centre, Umunna, where residents were briefed on his legislative activities and constituency interventions.

According to reports, the engagement served as a feedback platform, allowing community members to assess his performance while also strengthening collaboration between the representative and the people.

Speaking at the event, Igariwey highlighted the Letu–Owutu Road and the Osisioma Civic Centre as some of the most impactful projects delivered in Edda LGA.

“The Letu–Owutu Road is particularly significant because it links Upper and Lower Edda. Despite its importance, the road was abandoned for decades,” he said.

He explained that the road project posed serious engineering challenges due to deep ravines and difficult terrain but was successfully completed using rigid concrete pavement to ensure durability.

The lawmaker further described the Osisioma Civic Centre as a culturally symbolic project, noting that Osisioma remains a historic ancestral ground where major decisions affecting the 72 villages of Edda clan are traditionally made.

“Osisioma represents unity for the Edda people. Building a modern, well-equipped civic centre there helps preserve our culture while adapting to modern realities,” he stated.

Igariwey added that the facility promotes inclusive decision-making and provides a central meeting space for a geographically dispersed population, especially in the face of climate challenges and modernization.

In recognition of his contributions, the Edda Traditional Rulers Council, led by HRH Ezeogo Oko Onu Ama of Etiti Autonomous Community, conferred on him the chieftaincy title “Nwa Eji Ejemba I of Edda.”

Reacting to the honour, the lawmaker described the title as a rare and meaningful endorsement of his service.

“This recognition reflects the trust, affection, and confidence the Edda people have in my representation. It goes beyond politics and reinforces my bond with the community,” he said.
