The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has restated its determination to rebuild internal unity and reclaim political leadership in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party leadership warned individuals who have been expelled through court decisions to stop identifying themselves as PDP members, stressing that such actions only fuel confusion and undermine party discipline.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abakaliki on Monday, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Onyebuchi, dismissed claims that the party was collapsing, insisting that recent challenges have instead strengthened its resolve.
According to Onyebuchi, the party has emerged more cohesive and focused despite ongoing internal disputes.
“Some people assumed that the PDP was heading towards extinction, but our experiences have only made us stronger, more united, and fully committed to delivering good governance for Ebonyi State and Nigeria,” he said.
Onyebuchi outlined key steps taken by the caretaker committee since it was inaugurated by the National Working Committee (NWC) on November 26, 2025.
He revealed that a major stakeholders’ meeting was held on December 4, 2025, in Abakaliki, where party leaders openly pledged their support for the caretaker committee and its agenda to reposition the PDP in the state.
A second stakeholders’ meeting, involving leaders from all 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State, was convened on December 18, 2025. During the meeting, party leaders agreed to roll out strategic programmes in preparation for upcoming party congresses.
“The PDP remains an inclusive party. Our doors are open to returning members and new entrants who are willing to work with us to rescue Ebonyi State and Nigeria,” Onyebuchi stated.
The caretaker chairman expressed confidence that the PDP remains a strong contender ahead of the 2027 elections, both at the state and national levels.
He said the party is repositioning itself to reclaim its influence and dominate Nigeria’s political space.
“The PDP is the party to watch in 2027. At both the state and national levels, we are building the momentum needed to take back political power,” he added.
Onyebuchi reaffirmed the party’s allegiance to its established leadership structures, noting that PDP organisational frameworks remain active across all 171 wards and 13 local government areas in Ebonyi State.
He pledged continued loyalty to the Caretaker National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, as well as the party’s national leader, Nyesom Wike.
The caretaker chairman also expressed confidence in the Southeast Zonal Working Committee under Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu and the PDP Board of Trustees chaired by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
The party leadership issued a stern warning to expelled members and individuals allegedly occupying PDP offices unlawfully across the state.
Onyebuchi urged them to desist from parading themselves as party leaders, warning that legal action would be taken against continued misconduct.
He also directed illegal occupants of PDP secretariats across Ebonyi State to vacate the premises within 48 hours or face lawful consequences.
The Ebonyi PDP concluded by assuring its members that the national leadership remains committed to conducting outstanding congresses and organising a credible national convention.
Onyebuchi called on loyal party members to cooperate fully in restoring unity, discipline, and order within the party as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
