Labour Party National Leadership Unveils 24-Member Interim Executive in Ebonyi State

Date:

The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has officially inaugurated a 24-member interim executive council in Ebonyi State as part of a renewed effort to stabilize the party and reposition its political structure ahead of upcoming elections.

The new committee—constituted under the directive of the LP National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha—appoints seasoned political figure Chief Henry Udeh (AjimBest) as Chairman representing Ebonyi South.

Comrade Innocent Igiri from Ebonyi Central will serve as Secretary, while Engr. Nwede Joshua Igwebuike from Ebonyi North assumes the role of Organising Secretary.

In a deliberate push to promote women’s participation in party activities, the LP leadership named Hajia Rabiu Abubakar (Ebonyi North) as the State Woman Leader. She will collaborate with zonal women leaders:

  • Chief Mrs. Ngozi Nwaleke (Ebonyi North)
  • Mrs. Ngozi Ekuma (Ebonyi South)
  • Blessing Okoroafor (Ebonyi Central)

The new structure aims to enhance female representation and build a more inclusive political environment in Ebonyi.

To reinforce the party’s internal governance, the LP appointed Barr. Ikey Nwobo as State Legal Adviser and Comrade Louis Nwebonyi as Publicity Secretary.

This inauguration marks the end of months of leadership uncertainty and internal disputes that previously stalled Labour Party activities across Ebonyi State.

Reacting to the development, the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in the state, Comrade Splendour Eze Oko, praised the new executive, stating that party stakeholders and grassroots mobilizers are ready to collaborate to rebuild unity and strengthen the party’s influence.

Also commenting, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, the party’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, described the inauguration as a strategic move that reaffirms the Labour Party’s relevance as a strong opposition force in Ebonyi politics.
