Two Suspected Human Traffickers Arrested in Ebonyi for Allegedly Trafficking Pregnant Girl to Ghana

Date:

The Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Forest Security Services (NFSS) has apprehended two women suspected of human trafficking and child exploitation after the rescue of a nine-month pregnant victim allegedly trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.

During a media briefing in Abakaliki, the NFSS State Commander, Mr. Larry Igwe, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that the rescued victim, Miss Faith Nwazunku from Izzi Local Government Area, was deported from Ghana before being found wandering the streets of the Ebonyi capital.

According to Igwe, the victim identified two women linked to the trafficking syndicate — Mrs. Chiamaka from Aghamehu Village in Ebonyi LGA, residing in Nkpuma Akpatakpa, and Mrs. Monica Simon Onyibe from Umuogodo Osha in Ohaukwu LGA, currently living in Nkaliki, Abakaliki LGA.

He said both suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for detailed investigation and possible prosecution under Nigeria’s criminal laws on human trafficking.

The commander further revealed that the NFSS has successfully arrested several robbery and kidnap suspects since 2023, noting that the agency’s efforts have complemented the operations of other security agencies in maintaining law and order across the state.

Mr. Igwe reaffirmed the NFSS’s commitment to supporting Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration in strengthening security and promoting peace in Ebonyi State, adding that the agency would continue to intensify surveillance within its jurisdiction to combat organized crime and trafficking networks.
