Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced a major reform in the state’s education sector with the restructuring of the Ministry of Education. The move, according to him, is aimed at reducing illiteracy and ignorance while strengthening learning opportunities for young people.
The governor made this known on Wednesday during Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration held at the Governor’s Office, Centenary City, Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru explained that the Ministry of Education has now been split into two, creating a new Ministry of Tertiary Education Administration to manage universities, postgraduate studies, and other higher institutions, while the existing ministry will focus on primary and secondary education.
“We are fighting illiteracy and ignorance by demerging the education ministry. From the onset of this administration, we made a promise that education would be our guiding compass. We believe that investing in the minds of our children is the surest path to sustainable development,” Nwifuru said.
He further highlighted the achievements of his administration in the education sector, including a scholarship programme that has sponsored hundreds of Ebonyi indigenes to pursue advanced degrees both within Nigeria and abroad.
The governor assured citizens that his government would continue to prioritize education, noting that quality learning remains the foundation for economic growth and long-term development in Ebonyi State.
